Tuxpan has a 500 km area of influence (hinterland), which covers the State of Mexico, Mexico City, Hidalgo, Morelos, Veracruz, Queretaro, Puebla and Tamaulipas. Its area of influence also extends to Nuevo Leon, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, Guerrero, Sonora, Tabasco and Yucatan.

The zone of influence of the Port for cargo movement abroad (Foreland), in order of relevance, includes: USA, Canada, Venezuela, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, east coast of Africa, France, Germany, Spain and others, where there is a potential market of several of bulk agricultural products, minerals in bulk and steel.

This hinterland and Foreland make to the Port of Tuxpan, deep-sea port since it receives import and export cargo, as well as coasting trade.
